Today I want to look at a drink which may seriously be sabotaging your fat loss efforts…Enter…Orange juice.
From a young age we are taught that orange juice is a “healthy option” and that we should drink it every day, particularly with breakfast. It’s jam packed with vitamin C and 1 of our 5 a day…Apparently.
That’s just clever marketing. It’s all just sugary nonsense!
Yes, that’s right, the humble orange juice may actually be doing your waistline more harm than good.
It’s packaged wonderfully…Large, bright oranges literally bursting full of liquid sunshine and energy like the picture above. How inviting…
One hundred years ago you could get great oranges. If oranges were picked and crushed immediately, then the odd glass of OJ could have some nutritional benefit, but not now.
Oranges are a big business, which means they are mass produced for export. Farmers use pesticides to kill bugs and other fungus to keep the orange looking as attractive and inviting as you see in the pictures. These oranges are then shipped thousands of miles to end up in our supermarkets virtually devoid of any nutritional value. When squeezed into juice, all the vitamins and minerals which MIGHT have been there are lost, and you are left with a very high GI liquid which is then sold as “HEALTHY ORANGE JUICE.”
200ml of OJ contains 20g sugar. I don’t care if it’s natural sugar, it’s still sugar. Plus, you don’t just have 200ml do you? No, you probably have nearer to 400ml which will give you a whopping 40g sugar. To put that in perspective, that’s the equivalent of 8 teaspoons of normal table sugar!
Where does this sugar end up in our bodies?
One word: FAT!
Orange juice, apple juice, all juices…They are all the same. Avoid them with breakfast, avoid them in the afternoon, avoid them full stop!
Drink water and green tea instead…Your body will thank you for it 🙂
